After a long weekend of packing, moving, unpacking and pole searching, I’m thoroughly exhausted. It was nice this morning to be able to walk to work. I’m sure you’ll hear me complaining about this, come December.

My first interaction with my new roommate: I’m barricaded in my room by boxes and have a full-sized mattress balancing on my back while trying to assemble my bed frame. Through my door I hear her say “Rachelle, I have a technical question.” And when my advice didn’t work she came back, and when that didn’t work she came back and when that still didn’t work, she came back and asked again. It will be a long year if she keeps asking me technical questions.

My first interaction with another tenant in the building: I’m walking outside and I pass this old woman in the hall. She looks at the tank top and jeans I’m wearing and says “My dear, if you’re going outside you better put a sweater on! It’s cold and raining!” No need to worry, mom. Someone is looking out for me.

The pole searching: I need to put another pole in my closet. Problem #1: I can’t drill into one side of my closet. Problem #2: Tension polls are too big to begin with, let alone after you spring them out. Problem #3 was that all the wooden poles I was finding were too long. That problem was solved when I found a guy on Bleecker St. who said he’d cut a pole down for me. “Anything for you!,” he said. So, I asked him if he’d cut some boards down that I have at home and he said “No.” I guess NOT anything for me.

I don’t have a connection at home yet. .. so, expect larger blogs, less frequently. Not being able to get online is kind of a pain in the ass, but kind of a relief at the same time. Would it be weird if a web developer had no access at home? Actually, this feels like a brief little vacation.. soon enough I will go insane if I can’t get online.

Mark is using Movable Type on his site now. His blog is way better than mine now.. I need to get that comments feature! Check it out.

Oh, and if you need my new address, email me. My phone number is the same.
